State, territory and local governments, and some businesses, offer discounts to Veteran Card holders, such as cheaper electricity, car registration, public transport and council rates. Each government or business decides what it offers and who qualifies, so the concessions depend on where you live.
DVA card concessions by state
Check your state or territory government's concessions information:
- New South Wales: Service NSW's veterans page
- Victoria: concessions and discounts for veterans on vic.gov.au
- Queensland: Queensland Government concessions
- Western Australia: concessions available in Western Australia
- South Australia: SA.GOV.AU concessions
- Tasmania: Tasmanian Government concessions
- ACT: key concessions from the ACT Government
- Northern Territory: concessions and payments
DVA's discounts page links to each of these. Some concessions need a particular entitlement, such as a number of impairment points from overseas war service.
For car registration, stamp duty and licence concessions in each state, see DVA Gold Card benefits by state. In Victoria, anyone who has served in the ADF can also get the state's own Veterans Card – Victoria, which is separate from DVA's cards.

Proving you're eligible
An agency may look at your Veteran Card (plastic or digital), check online through Services Australia, or ask for a DVA letter. You can create some DVA letters yourself in MyService, or call 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) to have one sent. For online checks they'll need your Veteran File Number, which is on your card, or the 7-digit number on your Pensioner Concession Card or DVA letters.
The Veterans' Covenant and lapel pin
Veteran Card holders can take up the Australian Defence Veterans' Covenant, which includes a lapel pin, by choosing Veteran Covenant in MyService. Some businesses offer discounts to Veteran Card holders as a way of recognising service.
Read about the Gold Card, White Card and service pension, which comes with a Pensioner Concession Card.
