What DVA Household Services can cover
Household Services can include meal preparation when an accepted service-related injury or condition makes preparing meals difficult. DVA assesses the veteran's needs and records the approved tasks, frequency and financial limit in a written determination.
Meal preparation at home
An approved service may involve a provider cooking, portioning and safely storing meals in the veteran's home. The work must match the meal-preparation tasks listed in the DVA determination.
After DVA approval
The veteran chooses a suitable provider and arranges the service directly. The provider uses the veteran's Transaction Reference Number to submit invoices for approved work to DVA.
DVA's sources do not set one rule for food costs across its programs. Ask DVA and the provider which costs are covered before the service starts, and whether ingredients are included.
Applying for meal preparation
A Household Services claim can be sent to [email protected]. DVA confirms eligibility, arranges an assessment where required and determines the support that can be funded.

Veterans' Home Care
Meal preparation is also available as domestic assistance through Veterans' Home Care. Veteran Card holders living at home can request an assessment by calling the VHC Assessment Agency on 1300 550 450.
