DVA Household Services

Safe, Practical Support for Veterans at Home. Respects Your Service, Strength, and Time. Delivered by people who understand veterans.

You’ve served. You’ve put others first. Now it’s time to make sure you’re not spending your limited energy on the things that take the most out of you, especially when support is available.

“This isn’t just about whether you can do it; it’s about the toll it takes on your health and family when and after doing it.”

DVA Household Services

At AusVeterans, we understand that mowing the lawn, scrubbing the shower, or weeding the garden might still be doable. But if it leaves you in pain, requiring extra medication, or days/weeks/months to recover, it’s too high a price. Maybe you’ve missed your kids’ soccer match, skipped a catch-up with mates, or just had to lie low after pushing through the pain while, or after, mopping the floor.

This service exists to reduce that toll.

The DVA Household Services program is here to lessen the impact of injuries and health conditions from your time in service. Not because you can’t manage, but because you shouldn’t have to bear that load alone.

We’re not here to question your independence. We’re here to extend it and protect your quality of life.

AusVeterans provides an end-to-end service Gardeners, Lawn Mowing Services, Cleaners and a Household Service Specialist GP.

“This isn’t about just completing a form. It’s about standing beside you and making sure the system works the way it should.”

What Are DVA Household Services?

DVA-funded support that assists with practical tasks around the home. For everyday domestic tasks like mowing the lawn or cleaning the bathroom, that can leave you in pain, slow your recovery, or drain your capacity.

What We Can Help With

AusVeterans works with you to identify what support and assistance you need. If the everyday running of your household is leaving you with increased pain, using more medication, or needing recovery time that affects your week, then this support is for you.

Services may include:

“If everyday household tasks are triggering pain, irritation, or worsening your service-related injuries, it makes sense to seek support. AusVeterans can help, so you can focus on recovery, family, and the things that restore your quality of life.”

How the Process Works

We take the stress and confusion out of the process. You only need to let us know what you may need help with, and we handle the rest.

  1. Initial Conversation – We listen to your needs and explain the process
  2. Eligibility Assessment – Our team, including our in-house doctors, review your accepted conditions and circumstances and handle all clinical details and DVA eligibility criteria
  3. Claim Paperwork & Submission – We prepare and submit the Claim for Household Services (D9319) form on your behalf and follow up with DVA as required
  4. DVA Household Services Determination – Once your application has been assessed and determined by DVA, you will receive a Household Services Determination detailing the services and frequency approved for subsidy
  5. Service Delivery – Based on the DVA Household Services Determination letter, we organise and manage services for you. These are provided either directly from our AusVeterans team or via trusted contractors
  6. Ongoing Support – We’re not just a service connection agent who sets things up and moves on. If issues come up, or if your needs change, we’re here to help navigate it. Whether it’s a service problem, paperwork, reassessment, or something unexpected, you can count on us to help sort it out

You deal with one contact, one team, and get continued support as your needs evolve.

Who Can Apply?

This DVA Household Services assistance program is for veterans still serving or no longer in uniform and war widows or widowers who:
• Live at home (not in aged care or on base)
• Hold a DVA White or Gold Card
• Find certain household tasks increase pain, recovery time, or drain remaining capacity
• Either have no help or are supported, but the workload continues to create pressure on both you and your household

You must hold a DVA Gold or White Card with a service-related condition accepted under the MRCA or DRCA to qualify. Currently the VEA Home Care is the alternative scheme for Veterans with VEA claims accepted.

Having a partner or family around doesn’t mean they should have to do everything. We understand this scenario often causes extra stress for you instead of easing it. Whether you’re managing on your own or sharing the load with family, this service is about protecting your time, your health, and your overall wellbeing.

Not sure if you’re eligible? Reach out! We’re here to help, work with you, and guide you.

How AusVeterans Makes It Simple

We know paperwork can be overwhelming. We take the pressure off. No chasing paperwork, no dealing with departments, no organising doctors or contractors. We do all of that for you.

The D9319 Form: Made Simple

The D9319 form is the official DVA claim application form for DVA-funded Household Services. We complete the form on your behalf, including essential clinical detail and language DVA requires to give you the best chance of a favourable outcome.

Here’s How It Works

1. You contact us

Give us a call or submit an enquiry online. We’ll listen to your needs and explain how it works.

2. We assess your eligibility

Our in-house doctors review your circumstances and assist in submitting the required documentation on your behalf.

3. We complete and submit the forms

We prepare your application and handle all documentation and follow-ups with DVA.

4. DVA allocates support

If approved, the DVA provides a determination on your compensation for household Services as service hours and frequency. This determination dictates the amount of compensation you are able to receive per hour of service at your home.

5. We coordinate and manage the services

Based on the DVA household services determination we organise all of your service providers.

Why Veterans Choose AusVeterans

We are your one trusted partner for expert guidance, seamless applications, and dependable home support—delivered by people who genuinely care.

What If Your Needs Change Over Time?

That’s ok. You can be reassessed. Services don’t have to remain the same for the duration of the listed determination. You can be reassessed on additional medical conditions or circumstances.

Life shifts, and your support can too. Whatever you need. Extra help, an amendment to your schedule, or an adjustment to the timeframe. We’ll make the change seamless and stress-free.

Can I Use DVA Household Services With Other Government Programs?

You can’t receive duplicate services from multiple government programs at the same time. However:
• If you’re not receiving a Home Care Package through My Aged Care, you may be eligible for DVA household services
• If you are receiving other supports, AusVeterans can help clarify what’s available under each scheme
• You can switch between programs when your situation changes. We’ll guide you through it

Additional Services Beyond DVA Approval

If you need help with household tasks that aren’t included in your approved DVA Household Services determination, AusVeterans can still assist. We offer these extra services privately. Coordinated and delivered with the same trusted team and high standards.

Please note: services outside your DVA-approved list will incur a fee, but we’ll make the process simple and stress-free.
Examples include:
• Any home services on top of your DVA determination and allowance (e.g., additional lawn mowing, gutter cleaning)
• Home handyman tasks
• Light bulb changes
• Washing the car
• Washing the dog
• Waste removal and dump runs

Legislative Changes in 2026: What You Should Know

From 1 July 2026, important reforms to veterans’ compensation laws will improve access to supports like household services.

Key changes include:

  • Unified system – All new claims processed under a revised MRCA / Veterans Act
  • Expanded access – VEA veterans can access household services for service-related injuries and conditions
  • Higher support rates – DRCA veterans will receive increased assistance matching MRCA rates
  • Presumptive conditions – Some service-related injuries and conditions will be accepted automatically, speeding up applications

These reforms aim to provide faster approvals, broader access, and fairer outcomes.
